boating fun!

DSC02139DSC02142DSC02149We had a wonderful weekend boating!  Our first outing since Nick’s many surgery’s…My brother, Mike and his family joined us for their first day on their new boat on Saturday. Here I am with my 1 year old niece Addison.   Saturday night we watched the Packer game with our “dock” neighbors and few other friends….Sunday we spent the day relaxing out on the water at Waverly Beach.  I made a great salad on Sunday that  I will share the recipe with you in my next post.  I found a little time to sew, but did not get enough done to show you any of it yet!

Home…again

I just got back home from my MI teaching gig.  I whimped out of driving all the way through Chicago, and took the SS Badger Ferry across Lake Michigan.  It was a blast I would do it again in a minute.  I was almost late, but my lead foot got me there, thank God, I did not get a speeding ticket. I spent the night with Colleen Foley who just moved to MI from WI.  She lives on Gull Lake…I am sooooo jealous the lake is beautiful…we kayaked before supper and then went for a boat ride.  Of course we stayed up late sewing…..But here is my grey suburban packed nicely into the cargo haul of this boat.  Then here is a photo of the Manitowoc shore.. 45 min drive home from there.  I was so busy teaching I did not get a chance to take any pic’s of the Cal-Co quilters’ work shop.  Sorry Girls!  But they did the Redware Crow project from our new book.  I think everyone was happy with how far we got!  It was a hot one, but everyone must have not minded, no one left early…I never sweated so much teaching before????  I will write tomorrow to show you my treasures I found in Marshall MI when Linda took me shopping before my lecture on wool! Bye now…

Sewing in sewing room

work area- pattern writing

Well my desk area is all back together and is messy as usual.  My sewing space in in the shape of an “L”.  In the short side of the “L” is this space where there is a 3×6 window and then my sewing machine is to the right of here.  I will show the long part of the “L” another day.

I am working on a Lori Smith Fit to Frame. I finished the top at the retreat this last weekend now I am quilting it.  I got a new light on my machine…it is the best!  It adheres to the side and has little clips to hold the cord to the back of your machine.

Bendable spotlight is awesome!

I am putting on a singlefold binding, because of this quilt is only 18×24.  But this light makes it alot easier to see everything.  I quilted crosshatching 1″ apart both ways…Mark your quilts with a hera marker it is fast and easy.

Weekend in Chicago for Race…Is Kyle Bush going to win them all?

Ok..I know most of you quilter’s don’t know what I am talking about…maybe you do…but Race days are good for sewing (Lisa) and napping (Nick). But we went to the race last weekend because it was a night race and we have never been to a night race…we have gone to all the Chicago races but 1 the year we opened the shop.

Thursday started off with a great storm that cancelled the FREE Gretchen Wilson concert…We stayed in my brother’s camper in the middle what used to be a cornfield… they make more money running electricity in their field, than growing crops…but they do a great job of getting us to the race and with local bands, ice and doughnut trucks that come around every morning with the paper…So we basically rode the storm out in the trailer and played cards, girls in one trailer, boys in the other…the boys played for money, we learned a new game one of the girls plays with her kids at daycare.

About 2 o’clock the next day we learned Gretchen was going to play at 2:30..it was hotter than blazes…people getting heat exhausted…Gretchen was very good…we loved her Separate Ways songs from Journey and Barracuda, from Heart-along with all of her hits…the race on Friday…the Busch race was kind of boring..not too many crashes and I was the only girl that went, the other stayed around the site drinking martinis, they said they had a blast.

I sewed my muti-colored penny rug all weekend from Threads that Bind…this is the second one i have done…i love them…no hangover for me…i finished  all the pennies by the time we arrived home…see it below…

Sat. Nights race…i froze..should have brought a sweat shirt…who would have thought…fry like fish on tinfoil every year, this year froze…oh well…this is probably our last year…but who knows….

Summertime and the 4th of July

Summertime....ok...now how do I quilt it????

Summertime....ok...now how do I quilt it????

I spent a wonderful weekend boating, grilling, dog sitting and sewing my blocks of the week together.  I love how it turned out.  I hope those of you doing it also like it… I know the block of the week is sort of a mystery quilt.  Hope you are not disappointed.  We went out with Todd and Jeanine to hang out while the kids swam…i sewed a little..Nick took a nap and then we all went to Canova’s in Neehah for dinner and then watched the fireworks while on the boat in the middle of the river where they shoot off the fireworks!  On sat. we watched Roscoe and took care of our garden, grilled out and have a fire in the pit….

Roscoe

Todd and Jeanine\'s boat on Lake Winnebago...what a nice day...

The boats all tied to each other in the lake on the sandbar.

Strawberry Picking!

Yesterday Carole and I went in search of some strawberries, which I pick every year.  The first farm we went to we were placed in a patch of mostly weeds and small berries that didn’t taste like anything.  After picking my $3.10 worth we decided we were going somewhere else….So we set out for a new farm that we had never been to in Clintonville.  As we were pulling in we could tell this was going to be a much better place.. It started with the sinage, the view of the building and farms were immaculate, and then the big pole building was set up well, the tractor with the nice wagon pulled right up and took you off to the most beautiful row of strawberries!  I know I have never been so excited about rows of strawberries before, but after the weed patch it was heaven…we picked our 2 flats a piece…Oh I forgot to mention..all this was 5 cents cheaper per lb! We then had lunch at the corner diner and we were off to stop at the antique shop we saw on the way in….but it was still closed at noon, even though the sign said 10-5pm..bummer… Well I bagged 12 quarts of berries for our favorite strawberry slush and other things, made a fresh fruit salad with supper and still have a big bowl of fresh berries in the fridge! I also hung out sheets and a few loads of wash out on my new clothesline.  I didn’t think I would be so excited to have one, especially since I was planning a nice fountian there, but I am trying to be a little more GREENER when possible.  Now if I could only get some chickens….lol…Started working on my last block of the week, and have a little left to do today…Looks like rain today here, so I will probably get more sewing done.  Later….

The Pacific Coast

Here are some photos from when we went to the coast for a few days after market…we walked the beach each morning and then explored the town…Look at those great blue flowers that must be perennials there! Boy I am I jealous…

Here is the project i started the other day…It is so fun to do someone else’s design…It is from Threads that Bind…I love her stuff…..You will see this at the shop or in our booth!  It was done with 6 Strands of DMC floss…it was nice to do a bigger design….I should be working on my block of the weeks  I will have to get them on the fabric so I can take them with me this weekend where Nick and I sent my quilt off to Bringham City UT where I will be teaching this weekend…Do you know how hard that was to put a lot of my big wool quilts in a box and ship them off????? I will be stopping in 3 airports by the time i get there so, that was not going to be an option…at least I can watch my shipment online as to where it is….
